Property worth Tk 20 lakh gutted in Mollahat

Properties worth Tk.20 lakh were gutted when a big fire broke out in Barabaria bazar under Mollahat Upazila in Bagerhat district on Tuesday mid night. It is reported that the fire originated from an electricity short circuit took place in Sohag Photostat and cosmetic shop of market when the shop-keepers of the market were in deep sleep. But when it was first noticed by a night guard the fire already went out of control and it engulfed the shop. Then the night guard announced the matter through the mike of a local mosque. Shop-keepers and the locals woke up and tried to extinguish the fire, but in vain. Being informed of the matter a fire brigade from Bagerhat and another from Gopalganj rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control with the help of the local people after a long fighting for 2 hours. But in spite of that Sohag Photostat and cosmetic shop with its 2 digital Photostat machines, 3 computers, 1 laptop, 4 digital cameras, 2 scanners, cash Tk.50 thousand, cosmetics and other valuables worth Tk.20 lakh were burnt to ashes.
7 food, varieties stores fined Tk 1.9 lakh

Seven food and varieties stores in different areas of the city fined Tk.1.9 lakh under different sections of ‘Standards of Weight and Measures Ordinance 1982, Consumers Rights and Preservation Act 2009, BSTI Ordinance 1985 by mobile court of district administration. Sukhomoy Sarkar, Executive Magistrate operated the mobile court in presence of deputy commissioner Barisal on Wednesday noon to afternoon. Courts sources said in the operation Chinese restaurant ‘China Palace’ fined Tk 50,000, ‘Garden Inn’ fined Tk. 50,000, ‘Hot Plate. Fined Tk 20,000, sweetmeat shop ‘Sree Guru Mistanna Vandar’ fined Tk. 50,000, ‘Sweet Heart Confectionary’ fined Tk. 10,000, ‘Sakal Sandhya Confectionary’ fined Tk 3,000 and ‘Matri Vandar’ fined Tk 7,000.
Robbers loot valuables worth Tk 30 lakh in Sylhet

Robbers looted valuables worth Tk 30 lakh from a house at Akhalia Surma Residential area in the city early Thursday. police said a gang of robbers, numbering eight, stormed the house of Dr. Shafiul Azam, a physician, and kept the house inmates hostage at gunpoint by tying them up inside a room around 3 am. Later the robbers looted valuables worth Tk 30 lakh. including 25 tolas of gold ornaments, Tk5 lakh cash, eight mobile phone sets and two laptops from the house and decamped with the booty. Sohel Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said police are trying to arrest the robbers.
129 houses under power network in Naogaon
NAOGAON: A total of 129 houses in Naogaon Sadar upazila have been brought under rural electrification network by Palli Bidyut Samity on Friday. Mohammad Abdul Malek, local lawmaker and president of district unit of Bangladesh Awami League, formally inaugurated the electrification programme as the chief guest at a function here. Local Awami league leaders Mahbabul Hoque komal,Abdur Razzak and AGM of Palli Bidyut Samity Shafiqul Islam also spoke on the occasion. Naogaon Palli Bidyut Samity has implemented the programme at a cost of Taka 21.54 lakh, reports BSS.
