Journalists form a human chain in Jessore

Journalists in Jessore formed a human chain in front of Jessore Press Club demanding withdrawal of the superintendent of police for making threats on SM Tauhidur Rahman, General Secretary, Jessore Press Club. Workers Party of Bangladesh district unit general secretary Jillur Rahman Bhitu, senior journalists Fakhre Alam, Mobinul Islam Mobin, Manotosh Basu and Farazi Ahmed Syeed Bulbul attended the chain.
Journo Mitu’s wife dies
Asma Zaman, wife of Motinuzzaman Mitu, former general secretary of Jessore Press Club and also senior staff reporter of The Report, died on Saturday night in the capital city Dhaka. She was 48. Family sources said Asma was suffering from cancer disease. She is survived by husband, only daughter student of a private university Marzia Zaman Bindu and a host of relatives and well wishers to mourn. She was buried at Karbala graveyard in Jessore after janaja prayers held at Baitus Salam Jame Mosque premises at Puratan Kashba. Jahid Hasan Tukun, president and SM Tauhidur Rahman, general secretary, Jessore Press Club and leaders of Jessore Journalists Union and Journalists Union of Jessore expressed their condolence at the death of Asma.
Youth found dead in Satkhira
SATKHIRA: An unidentified young man was found dead in a canal of Panchpota area in Ashashuni upazila on Monday night. MD Asaduzzaman Munshi, officer-in-charge of Ashashuni Police Station, said locals spotted the body of the unidentified young men, age around 20, while they went to the canal for catching frogs at night. Later they informed police.On information, police recovered the body. The body bore several injury marks of knife, added the OC, reports UNB.
Man gets life term for raping minor girl
NETRAKONA: A tribunal here on Monday convicted and sentenced a man to life term imprisonment for violating a minor girl at Gagra village of Purbadhala upazila in June 05, 2002. The convict identified as Romendra Sarker, 37, son of Fatima Chandra Sarker of the village, was also fined Tk50,000 in default, to suffer one year more imprisonment. According to the prosecution, on June 05, 2002, Romendra, a neighbour of the victim, abducted the girl, a student of class six and violated her. He also kept the victim confined to a place. After 23 days, police rescued her from the confinement and arrested Romendra. The victim’s father, Kashem Ali, filed a case with Purbadhala police station on June 07, 2002. After examining nine witnesses and all records, AKM Abul Kashem, judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Netrakona, handed down the verdict, reports UNB.
3 brick kilns fined Tk1.8 lakh

A mobile court on Monday fined three brick kilns Tk1.8 lakh in Sadar upazila for using topsoil from cropland and burning firewood in processing of bricks instead of coal. A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) led by Executive Magistrate Uzzal Kumar conducted a drive in different brick kilns in the upazila around 2pm and fined Padma Bricks Tk30,000, Moon Bricks Tk 1 lakh and Gold Fixed Bricks Tk50,000 for using soil from agricultural land and burning fuel wood in brick chimneys instead of coal, a Rab-5 press release said.

Adolescent mela held in Narsingdi

A day-long Adolescent Mela titled ‘Adolescent Savings through Mobile Banking’ was held at Kazi Mofiz uddin High school ground in Shibpur upazila here on Monday.
Adolescent development Programme of BRAC, the non-government organization organized the Mela. Additional Deputy Commissioner (Education & ICT) Jashim Uddin Haider inaugurated the Mela as the chief guest with district representative of BRAC, Mijanur Rahman in the chair. Chairman of Shibpur Upazila Parishad Ariful Islam Mirdha, District correspondent of BSS, Narsingdi Mohammad Abu Taher attended the function as the special guests. The chief guest Jashim Uddin Haider said, Bangladesh is progressing fast.The present Government are developing more in ICT sector. He said Mobile banking service is very important event for the adolescent and it would be able to witness the on-going digitalization activities in the country. He urged the adolescent for savings through mobile banking for future and for to be a worthy citizen.
