Ex-MP among 49 arrested in Jessore

Law enforcement agency men detained Muhaddis Abu Sayeed, former lawmaker and also ex- amir of Jamaat-e-Islami and 48 others in over drives across the district ahead of the forthcoming municipal polls. Talking to The New Nation, Safin Mahmud, assistant superintendent of police confirmed the information of arrest of the former lawmaker. He, however, told that he did not know why the former lawmaker was arrested. The law enforcement agency men arrested two other Jammat-e-Islami men in the drives. Habib Kaisar, son of the former lawmaker told that his father was picked up from Jessore town.
Motor cyclist arrested in murder case

A motor cyclist named Enamul Haq Gazi (23) was arrested by the police of Sharankhola PS from Uttar Khontakata area under Sharankhola Upazila in Bagerhat district on Monday night in connection with the sensational murder of one Atikuzzaman Sohag, according to a report received here. He is the son of one Md. Abdul Haq Gazi of the same area.Police said that on November 14 at 4 pm Kamruzzaman Sohag (18), son of one late Badsha Mia Talukdar of village Uttar Kadamtala of Sharankhola Upazila was kidnapped by the miscreants very tactfully from Rajair bus stand of the Upazila. After 4 days of the incident the body of Sohag was recovered by the police from the deep forest of Sundarbans. In this connection Taslima Begum, mother of Sohag registered a murder case with Sharankhola PS against some unidentified persons. Later the police arrested Sohag’s uncle (paternal aunt’s husband) Kabir Bepari (45) and Enamul Haq Gazi suspecting their involvement in the murder. SI Mostafizur Rahman of Sharankhola PS and IO (Investigation Officer) of the case told the newsmen, Late Sohag loitered hither and thither with Enamul Gazi by his (Enamul’s) motor cycle on November 14 in the morning.
Cop crushed under wheels in Jhenaidah

A police constable was crushed to death under the wheels of a speeding microbus at Barobazar area on Jhenaidah-Jessore highway under Kaliganj upazila in Jhenaidah on Monday noon.The deceased was identified as Jamirul Islam (30), a highway police constable of Barobazer highway police in Jhenaidah. The incident happened around 12.30pm near Barobazar under Kaliganj upazila.Kaliganj police officer in charge Anwar Hossain said, Jamirul Islam was providing services on the highway. A Jessore bound microbus hit him from the back led Jamirul Islam dead on the spot. The driver of the microbus had managed to flee from the spot. Police rushed to the spot and recovered the dead body and sent to Jhenaidah Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. A case was filed with Kaliganj police in this connection.
Robbers loot gold, cash in Sylhet

Robbers looted valuables including gold ornaments and cash, worth about Tk 5 lakh from a house at Dubag Village in Beanibazar Under Sylhet District on early Sunday. The police, quoting the victims and local people, said 15 to 20 robbers broke in the house of Raju Ahmed Chawdhury of the area at about 2:30am and looted 3.5 tola gold ornaments and cash Money keeping the family hostage at gunpoint. Beanibazar police officer-in-charge said house owner Raju Ahmed Chawdhury filed a case in this regard. The police visited the spot, he added.
