Prisoner dies in Kishoreganj jail

A prisoner died of ‘cardiac arrest’ at Kishoreganj District Jail on early Sunday. The victim deceased Mohammad Shamim (36) son of Md. Chand Miah, a resident of Bhaagalpur in Bajitpur town of Kishoreganj. When contact to Jailer in Kishoreganj District Md. Nasiruddin told the New Nation that Mohammad Shamim came to the jail on in a drug case. He fell sick due to chest pain on Saturday midnight and sent to Kishoreganj 250 bed General Hospital. He died there early Sunday while undergoing treatment. After an autopsy, the body will be handed over to victim ‘s family . An unnatural death (UD) case was filed with Kishoreganj Sadar Model Police Station in this connection, Jailer Nasir added.

A protest procession and meeting was held in Fenchuganj on the charge of tearing down an Eid greeting banner with pictures of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sajib Wazed Joy. The protest procession was brought out at Fenchuganj Bazar under the banner of Fenchuganj Trinamool Awami League (AL) on Saturday. The procession started from the front of the police station, went around different streets of the market and came to the road point of the police station and met at the protest meeting. Fenchuganj Upazila Awami League co-president Akhlaqur Rahman Chowdhury Selim presided over and Former vice president of Fenchuganj Upazila Chhatra League Mehrab Hossain Junel conducted the procession. Speakers said a banner with pictures of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Sajib Wazed Joy was torn down in front of the toll plaza of Fenchuganj Bridge on the eve of Eid. Despite having pictures of Father of the Nation Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Sheikh Hasina and Sajib Wazed Joy, the miscreants dragged the banner with their feet. Seeing that, our hearts have been bloodied. This has been done out of revenge. We were convinced by looking at the CCTV footage of the toll plaza. We have lodged a GD with Fenchuganj police station in this regard.

3 ferry owners fined for overloading

A mobile court in Barishal imposed a penalty of Tk 30,000 on three ferry owners for carrying passengers beyond the permitted capacity on Friday. Joint director of Bangladesh Inland and Water Transport Authority, Mostafizur Rahman, said the mobile court conducted a drive in the Barishal port area around 7.30pm and imposed a fine of Tk 10,000 each on the owners of MV Parabat-18, Parabat-10 and MV Surovi-9 for overloading. The mobile court was led by executive magistrate Mushfiqur Rahman and assistant commissioner (land) Tariqul Islam, he added.
