Smugglers attack BGB men in ‘Maitrey Express’

The smugglers attacked Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB) during a drive in ‘Maitrey Express’ a Dhaka-bound train from India on Tuesday noon in Ishwardi Railway Station. BGB men took the situation under control firing blank shoots. Acting on a tip off , BGB conducted drive in passenger bound ‘Maitrey Express’ train at about 2.25pm on Tuesday in Ishwardi platform said Lt. Col. Mahamud Hossain, Director of BGB told the journalist. BGB took the situation under control opening blank shots, BGB sources said adding that the men of smugglers attacked on them. “BGB conducted drive to recover smuggling goods from ‘Maitrey Express’ according to secrete information. When our team started drive on the train the men of smugglers organized in the platform suddenly attacked on BGB men. They hurled brick chips on the operation team.” Mahamud said. BGB men opened 2 round blank shots for self defense he added. Nobody injured with the incident he added. Officer-in-charge of GRP thana in Ishwardi Md. Humayan Kabir said “at least two persons including one members of the BGB were injured in a clash between BGB and smugglers at Ishwardi Railway Station.

One held with gaja in Ashulia

A drug trader was arrested by police with 1 kg gaja from Joti filing station of Sripur area of Ashulia on Sunday midnight. The arrestee was identified as Ashraful, 19. Police source said, the arrestee was sold gaja for long time. On secret information police conducted a drive on Sunday midnight and arrested him. At the time 1 kg gaja was rescued from him. Md. Mostafizur Rahman SI of Ashuia police station confirmed the matter and said a case was filed in this connection.

6 doctors of SBMCH show caused

Health and Family Welfare Ministry issued show cause letters against six teachers of Barisal Sher- e- Bangla Medical College for their undue absence in duty. The show cause noticed doctors were Dr. A H M Shafiqur Rahman, Associate Professor and Head, and Dr. Syed Md. Baqi Billah, Assistant Professor of Community Medicine department, Prof. Dr. Saidur Rahman, head of medicine department, Dr. Md. Awal, associate Professor Urology Department, Dr. M M Ehsan Ul Huq, Associate Professor, Dr. Md Nuruzzaman, assistant professor of neuro surgery department, Prof. Dr. Ranjit Kha, principal of SBMC, said the show cause notice was signed by Moin Uddin Ahmed, deputy secretary ministry of health and family planning, and reached at SBMC office through fax on Sunday morning. Due to their absence in classes, students suffering much. So the noticed teachers were asked to submit there reply within seven working days, he added. The notices already served to concerned teachers asking them to submit reply within due time, the principal SBMC told.

North Bengal Drought Conference held at RU

A two- day long Second North Bengal Drought Conference was ended at Rajshahi University (RU) on Friday. Geology and Mining Department of RU, Barindra Unnoyon Procharona Dal and Rajshahi University Journalist Association (RUJA) jointly arranged the two day long conference. Friday on the second day of the conference, RUJA with the assistance of Barindra Unnoyon Procharona Dal organized a reporting workshop on “Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security” started at 10:00 am at the university deans’ complex conference room. About 50 journalists of the university participated in the programme. Shakir Ahmed, president of RUJA presided over the programme while Prof Pranab Kumar Panday of mass communication and journalism department of RU, Abul Kalam Azad, Rajshahi Bureau of daily prothom alo addressed as the trainee.

Schoolgirl found hanged in Jessore

Benapole : Police recovered the hanging body of a schoolgirl at Navaron More in Sharsha upazila on Tuesday night. The deceased Sumi Khatun,14, a class-X student of Navaron Burujbagan Girls High School and daughter of Malaysia expatriate Jahangir Hossain, a resident of Khaskhali village in Jhikargachha upazila, used to live in a rented house at Navaron More along with her mother. Local people found the body of Sumi hanging from the ceiling of her house and informed police at night. Later, police recovered the body and sent it to the Jessore Medical College Hospital morgue for an autopsy. Ahmed Kabir, officer-in-charge of Sharsha Police Station, said it would be clear after getting the post-mortem report whether it was an incident of suicide or murder reports UNB.
