Reception to new DC by journalists in Bagerhat

The members of Bagerhat Press Club accorded Tapan Kumar Biswas, newly appointed DC of Bagerhat a warm reception when he visited the Club on Thursday evening. Later, the journalists met him (DC) in a meeting held in the Press Club auditorium with its president Adv. Md. Shah Alam Tuku in the chair in order to exchange views with him. The DC sought the co-operation of the journalists in discharging his administrative duties efficiently and honestly. He told, I am so impressed and overwhelmed with your cordial and sincere behaviours within a week I forgot the absence of the members of my family. In the meeting Alhaj Adv. Mir Shawkat Ali Badsh, MP of Bagerhat Constituency-2 and founder president of Bagerhat Press Club was present in the meeting as the chief guest. The MP assured the DC that the local journalist will co-operate him sincerely to discharge his duties honestly and efficiently. Adv. Mozaffar Hossain, Prof. ABM. Mosharraf Husain, Babul Sardar, Shawkat Ali Babu, Moazzem Hossain Majnu, Md. Azadul Haq and Yamin Ali, Baki Talukder and Molla Masudul Haq spoke on the occasion on behalf of the local journalists. All the speakers assured the DC that they would co-operate him in discharging his duties so long he would be in right way. The meeting was conducted by Md. Kamruzzaman, General Secretary of the Press Club.
Mobile Court fines Tk 25,000 in Rangpur

A mobile court of Rangpur City Corporation (RpCC) fined a hotel and a coaching centre Taka 25,000 and destroyed 20-kg unhygienic sweets and curd here on Thursday. Executive Magistrate of RpCC SM Golam Kibria led the mobile court and conducted the anti-adulteration drive with the assistance of Kotwali Thana police and concerned officials, a press release said here on thatday. During the drive, the mobile court found uncovered foodstuffs, dirty environment and unhygienic conditions and use of polythene packs inside Nurnai Hotel at Lalbag area in the city. The mobile court fined the hotel Taka 20,000 for violating the Bangladesh Environmental Protection Act, 1995 and Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009 and destroyed the sweets and curd.Besides, the mobile court also fined Director of Uniaid Coaching Centre Rezaul Karim Taka 5,000 for running the centre at Shapla Chattar area in the city without renewing trade license. The RpCC will continue to conduct its anti-adulteration drives to save public health from hazards of food adulteration, the press release added.
Three held with 15-kg ganja in Pirganj
PIRGANJ: Police in a drive arrested three drug peddlers with 15-kg smuggled ganja from Madarpur area of the upazila on Friday night. The arrested were identified as Rafikul Islam, 35, Safiqul Islam, 35, and Meherul Islam, 40, residents of Kurigram Sadar upazila. On a tip-off, a team of police from Pirganj Thana intercepted a microbus on the Rangpur-Dhaka highway and arrested the trio and recovered the ganja after searching the microbus, said Rejaul Karim, officer-in-charge of the Thana. They were sent to jail hazat this noon, the OC said, reports BSS.
Discussion on tuberculosis held in Jhalakathi
JHALAKATHI: A views exchange meeting on tuberculosis was held in the district town yesterday to discuss on the necessity of creating mass awareness to free the country from the disease. Jhalakathi district unit of Jatiya Jakkha Nirodh Samity arranged the discussion meeting at a community centre where the senior teachers of colleges and Madrasas took part. District unit president of the Samity advocate Mahabubur Rahan Talukdar presided over the discussion while Dr Shaon Bin Rahman attended as the chief discussant. District unit general secretary of the organization Md Nazrul Islam and BRAC official Shanjib Mondol also spoke, among others, at the views exchanging meeting. The speakers urged the teachers to continue social movement for controlling the tuberculosis disease in the country, reports BSS.
Anti-militancy meeting in Pirojpur
PIROJPUR: An anti-militancy meeting was held at the auditorium of the Pirojpur Govt Shaheed Suhrawardi College of the district on Wednesday. Professor Abdul Jalil Akon, Principal of Pirojpur Govt Shaheed Suhrawardi College presided over the meeting. Additional DIG of Barisal range police Md Akram Hossain was present as the chief guest. District Superintendent of Police Md Walid Hossain, Additional Police Super Abu Ashraf, Vice-principal of Pirojpur Govt Shaheed Suhrawardi College Geeta Rani Majumdar, Head of English Department Associate Professor Suddhananda Gaain, and Head of History Department Associate Professor Md Shaheen Reza,among others, spoke on the occasion. The speakers urged the people to forge a united social movement against terrorism and militancy in the district. Teachers, students and people from all walks of life attended the meeting, reports BSS.
