Jamaat-Shibir, Jubo Dal men arrested in Gournadi

Gournadi police arrested Hossen Khalifa, 52, Nalchira union Jamaat secretary and his son Alamin Khalifa, 26, Chhatra Shibir activist, from their business shop at Kalabaria Bazar area on early Sunday. Abul Kalam, Gournadi police station officer- in -charge, said the arrestees were wanted as accused in political violence cases and sent to jail Sunday afternoon after producing before the court. On other hand Barisal Kotwali police on early Sunday arrested Khaza Md Iqbal, President of district Jubo Dal from Barisal port area. Sakhawat Hossain, Kotwali police station- in -charge, claimed Iqbal was wanted accused in cases of political violence and sent to jail after producing before the court on Sunday afternoon.

One killed, 4 injured in road crush

One person killed and 4 others injured after one truck hit another during overtaking at Atipara under Ujirpur police station on Barisal-Dhaka highway Sunday morning.
The dead victim of the cement laden truck was identified as Idris Ali, 35, labour of Shikarpur toll collection post and son of Mafizuddin Sardar of Thakurmallik village under Babuganj upazila. The injured four were Jasim Mridha,35, driver, Bakir Mridha,20, Salam,30, Mostafa, 40, helper and labours of the cement laden truck. Iqbal Hossain, Gournadi highway police station officer in charge, said driver of a truck of Anchor Cement during over taking hit backside of another truck laden with iron bars and front side of the cement carrier truck smashed causing death of one and injuries of the five of cement company truck. Police lodging a case sent the dead body to morgue for autopsy and admitted injured for treatment at Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, seizing the both trucks, the police official said.

Meeting on HIV held in Chapainawabganj

Speakers in a discussion meeting disclosed, 472 people died of AIDS till 2013 and in 2013 only, 82 died of AIDS in the country. They said this in a sensitisation meeting on ‘Expanding HIV Prevention in Bangladesh.’ Non-government organization Light House arranged the meeting under a project with the financial assistance of The Global Fund on Sunday. It was held at the conference room of the civil surgeon of Chapainawabganj with the Chapainawabganj Sadar upazila health and family planning officer (UHFPO) Dr. Tarit Kumar Saha in the chair. Among others, journalist NSM Mahbubur Rahman Mintu, Chapainawabganj district representative of BRAC Md. Shahnur Sultan, senior health education officer of the civil surgeon’s office Shamsunnahar, advocate Tasiqul Islam, manager of the Chapainawabganj drop in centre (DIC) of Light House Akramullah and counselor of the DIC Runa Parveen Dalia spoke on the occasion.
The speakers said, Hijras should be treated sympathetically and taken into the main stream of the society as they are also a part of the human beings.
The speakers also stressed on their rehabilitation with a view to changing their behaviour.
