64 held in Jessore on various charges

Police in separate drives arrested 64 people from different places of the district on various charges, including violence, on Thursday afternoon. While briefing the media, Anisur Rahman, superintendent of police, Jessore, said police arrested 20 people from Kotwali, eight from Chougacha upazila, nine from Sharsha upazila, six from Jhikorgachha upazila, two from Benapole, three from Keshabpur upazila, eight from Manirampur upazila, six from Abhoynagar upazila and two from Bagharpara upazila of the district. All of them are accused in several cases, including over violence. Police also recovered five hand bombs and huge illegal drugs during the drives.
37 held with phensidyl in Satkhira
SATHKHIRA: Police in special drives arrested 37 persons and recovered 5 bottles of phensidyl from seven upazilas in the district on Thursday. They were picked up from different areas of the district on various charges, police said. During the drive, Satkhira Sadar police arrested 15 persons and Kalaroa police held 10 persons. Besides, Patkelghata police arrested one accused. Meanwhile police also arrested three persons from Assasuni thana area and two persons from Tala thana area. Kaliganj police held three persons, Shyamnagar police two persons, and Debhata police one person on different charges during the period, reports BSS.
Motorcyclist killed in road mishap

A young motorcyclist was killed in a road accident at Bazidpur More in Phulbari-Dinajpur high way in Parbotipur upazila in Dinajpur district on Thoursday morning. The deceased was identified as Sumon Chandra Roy, 25, son of Dhiru Chandra Roy village Rajapukur in Dinajpur Sadar upazila. Locals said that, Sumon Roy was going to his work place in Phulbari from his house Dinajpur in his motorcycle. Suddenly a carring trucktor Traly collided head on his bike at about 10.30am at the place leaving him dead on the spot. The driver and helper managed to escape after the incident. Inspector (investigation) of Phulbari thana Abdur Rahman conformed the incident.
Man killed by train in Sylhet

An unidentified man was crushed to death under the wheels of a train at Shibbari Joinapur in South Surma upazila on Wednesday night. Local sources said, the man died on the spot as a Sylhet-bound ‘Paharika Express’ train hit him while he was crossing the rail track at about 8:30pm.
Maintaining communal harmony stressed
FARIDPUR: LGRD and Cooperatives Minister Engineer Khondoker Mosharraf Hossain said here yesterday the present Awami League government has ensured communal peace and harmony to the highest extent leading the country towards peace and prosperity. The minister was inaugurating a huge colorful rally on Sreeangan premises in connection with the observance of Janmashtami festival of Lord Shri Krshna who came to this earthly mundane for establishing peace and stability in the society. Lord Shri Krishna was born 50242 years ago according to SanatanHindu mythology, it was told in the meeting. The rally was organized by Faridpur district unit of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad. Mosharraf said that Bangladesh is a country where people of all sects and religious beliefs live in peace and happiness and urged upon all to continue this tradition for future prosperity, reports BSS.
Describing Awami League as symbol of security of life and property of the people particularly the minority communities he asserted that the government of Prime Minister Shaikh Hasina is committed to maintain this tradition.
Mosharraf also warned the elements who want to create confusion among different sects and communities in the society to destabilize the country. He also alerted the people against militancy and terrorism in the society.
The meeting was chaired by Advocate Subal Chandra Saha while it was also addressed by Sadar upazilla chairman Khondoker Mohtesham Hossain Babor.
The rally participated by hundreds of people attired with attractive dresses even some young boys and girls as Radha and Krishna paraded the main thoroughfares of the town and dispersed at Sreeangan.
In the morning, another rally was held in the town organized by District Administration.
