The 56th death anniversary of veteran journalist and political thinker Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia was observed with solemn respect and reflection at a commemorative event organized by The New Nation daily newspaper on Sunday.
The event took place at the Manik Mia Foundation auditorium in Ittefaq Bhaban, the very building that once housed the iconic Daily Ittefaq, a newspaper founded and led by Manik Mia during critical periods in the country’s history.
Colleagues, journalists, academics, and political personalities gathered to pay tribute to his legacy.
Tofazzal Hossain Manik Mia was a fearless voice for democracy.
His editorial column “Rajnaitik Moncho” (The Political Stage), written under the pseudonym Musafir, was widely credited for inspiring democratic movements during the 1950s and 1960s.
Manik Mia was a voice of conscience during one of the most turbulent times in our history,” said one speaker.
Editor of The New Nation Md Mokarram Hossain, Executive Editor Farrukh Khosru and others were present at the programme.
