Staff Reporter :

Job seekers will now have only three attempts in the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) recruitment examination to become a BCS cadre, and the age limit for government jobs has been set at 32 years.

The interim government approved this decision during an advisory council meeting on Thursday.

According to a press release from the Cabinet Division, the draft ordinance establishing the maximum age limit for direct recruitment in government, autonomous, semi-autonomous, and statutory authorities, as well as public non-financial corporations and self-governing organizations, has received both preliminary and final approval.

Initiated by the Ministry of Public Administration, the ordinance stipulates that the maximum age limit for all cadres within the Bangladesh Civil Service will be set at 32 years.

This age limit will also apply to all government jobs outside the BCS.

For autonomous and semi-autonomous organizations, their respective recruitment regulations will apply with necessary adaptations. However, existing regulations for defense departments and law enforcement agencies will remain unchanged.

Under this ordinance, the Ministry of Public Administration will amend the “Bangladesh Civil Service (Age, Qualification, and Direct Recruitment Exam) Rules, 2014,” allowing candidates to take the BCS exam a maximum of three times.

Currently, BCS job announcements specify an age limit of 21 to 30 years, with special cases permitting up to 32 years.
