Staff Reporter :

Nepal has expressed interest in importing a larger volume of jute from Bangladesh, as its domestic jute mills rely heavily on Bangladeshi fibre, Nepal’s Ambassador to Dhaka Ghanshyam Bhandari said today.

The ambassador made the request during a meeting with Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin at the commerce ministry in Dhaka.
Bhandari noted that Nepal operates 11 jute mills, most of which depend on raw jute sourced from Bangladesh.

However, the mills are currently struggling with shortages due to reduced exports of the golden fibre from Bangladesh. In response, Adviser Bashir Uddin highlighted the global reputation of Bangladeshi jute and jute products, saying they are known for their superior quality and eco-friendly characteristics.

He added that greater jute exports to Nepal would strengthen bilateral trade ties and create mutual economic benefits for both nations.
