North East Medical College (NEMC) on Tuesday hosted a vibrant College Day celebration involving both new and returning students.
The event was inaugurated by Professor Dr. Shahriar Hossain Chowdhury, Acting Chairman of the Governing Body of North East Medical College. Also present at the occasion were Acting Principal Professor Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam, Chairman of North East Medical Private Limited Professor Dr. Syed Musa M.A. Kaiyum, Director Abu Ahmed Siddiqui, along with departmental heads, faculty members, doctors, and students from various departments, says a press release.
The day’s programme began with a colorful rally starting from North East Medical College Hospital, circling around ChandipoolChattar, and returning to the hospital grounds. Following the rally, a discussion session was held in the college conference hall.
During the session, Professor Dr. Shahriar Hossain Chowdhury highlighted the hospital’s progress, noting that North East Medical College Hospital is among the top 5 out of 72 medical college hospitals in Bangladesh. He addressed the increasing number of patients, explaining the growing challenge of accommodating them due to limited bed capacity.
Dr. Chowdhury also shared remarkable achievements of the college’s cardiology department, mentioning that over 100 angiograms were performed last month, marking an important milestone. He emphasised that the hospital regularly conducts primary PCI (Percutaneous Coronary Intervention), a procedure that significantly reduces heart damage when done within two hours of patient admission. Furthermore, he noted that North East Cancer Hospital provides initial treatment to Bangladeshi patients referred from Delhi and Chennai for further care.
Looking ahead, Dr. Chowdhury announced plans to soon begin kidney transplant services at the hospital.
The discussion session also featured speeches from Acting Principal Professor Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam and Vice Principal Professor Dr. A.F.M. Nazmul Islam, among others.
At Fahim Lecture Gallery No. 1, former and current faculty members, doctors, and students gathered to share nostalgic memories of their time at North East Medical College Hospital. The first session concluded with a luncheon.
The College Day celebration culminated at 5 PM with cultural programs, further discussions, and a spectacular fireworks display, marking the successful conclusion of North East Medical College Hospital’s College Day 2025.
