NN Online:
The newly formed National Citizen Party (NCP) has decided not to join any existing political alliance. However, it may form a new coalition ahead of the 13th parliamentary election, expected to be held in late 2025 or early 2026.
The NCP is preparing to contest all 300 seats in the next general election, said Samanta Sharmin, senior joint convener of the party told a news channel on Wednesday.
Sarwar Tushar, joint convener of the party, also revealed that NCP may form a new electoral alliance with smaller political parties ahead of the national elections.
The NCP was formed by students who played a significant role in the February 28 protests that led to the ousting of prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s government last year. The new political faction aims to challenge the existing political dynamics in Bangladesh.
The party is led by Nahid Islam, a prominent protest leader who also served as an adviser in the interim government led by Professor Mohammed Yunus.
