The National Citizen Party (NCP) will announce its “Vision for a New Bangladesh” at a rally at the capital’s Shaheed Minar on Sunday, marking the first anniversary of the August 3 mass uprising that shook the political landscape last year.

At a press conference held Saturday at the party’s Banglamotor office, NCP Convenor Nahid Islam said the public event will begin at 4 p.m. and will outline the party’s proposed framework for state restructuring, drawn from the voices and concerns of citizens across the country.

“Through the July March, we travelled to different corners of the country and listened to the people,” Nahid said. “Based on those conversations, we are now ready to present our vision for the future of Bangladesh.”

He reminded reporters that on this very day last year, the NCP had first raised the demand for regime change from the same venue. “We have always said that the fight against fascism is not over,” Nahid declared. “Tomorrow’s program will complete our vision of an alternative political and social order.”

On the issue of the July Charter, Nahid said the NCP has already submitted its draft and called on the interim government to publish the final version by August 5. “We’ve heard that the government is also preparing their own draft,” he noted. “But the Charter must be legally grounded. Without a legal basis, it won’t carry weight.”

He criticized the National Consensus Commission for failing to clarify how the Charter’s proposals will be implemented. “We reject the idea of leaving reform implementation to the next parliament. This government must take the first steps,” Nahid asserted.

Addressing youth concerns, he said the aspirations that inspired young people during the July uprising have not been fulfilled. “Tomorrow, we will unveil our employment and future policy plans aimed at the youth, whose dreams cannot be postponed any longer.”

Nahid also thanked the BNP’s student wing, Chhatra Dal, for withdrawing its planned rally at Shaheed Minar on the same day to avoid clashes and traffic disruption. “We thank them for their responsible decision,” he said. “We’ve also spoken with law enforcement to ensure the public and exam candidates are not inconvenienced.”

Issuing a warning about the misuse of the July movement’s name, Nahid said, “If anyone tries to use the July Declaration for extortion or personal gain, the authorities must act swiftly. This movement belongs to the people-it must not be exploited.”

The NCP’s rally is expected to serve as both a commemoration of the uprising and a formal declaration of its future political roadmap, just days before the government is scheduled to unveil the finalized July Charter.
