NCP seeks EC registration with symbol ‘Waterlily’
Staff Reporter :
The National Citizen Party (NCP) on Sunday formally submitted its application to the Election Commission (EC), seeking registration as a political party and proposing “waterlily” as its preferred electoral symbol.
Alongside “waterlily,” the party also listed “pen” and “mobile phone” as alternate options for its electoral emblem. The application was submitted at the EC headquarters in Dhaka’s Agargaon in the afternoon.
Present during the submission were NCP member secretary Akhter Hossen, chief coordinator
Nasiruddin Patwary, northern region coordinator Sarjis Alam, and senior joint convener Samatha Sharmin.
Speaking to reporters afterward, Akhter Hossen said, “We have submitted our registration application after meeting all the requirements under the Representation of the People Order (RPO). The EC officials have received our documents.”
Expressing optimism, chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary said, “We hope the people will support the NCP in the upcoming parliamentary election and help us form the next government – just as they stood with us in last year’s 5 August mass uprising.”
The NCP was officially launched on 28 February this year by leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and members of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee. The party traces its origins to the student-led popular uprising that brought down the previous Awami League government last year.
