Md Mosfekur Rahman, Additional Superintendent of Police (Traffic) at the Dinajpur SP Office, has been withdrawn and ordered to report to police headquarters following public backlash over a Facebook post mocking leaders of the National Citizen Party (NCP).

The controversy erupted after Wednesday’s violent attack on NCP leaders and supporters in Gopalganj, allegedly carried out by members of the banned Awami League and its affiliated wings, Chhatra League and Juba League. In the aftermath, top NCP leaders were evacuated from the area in an Army Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).

Referring to this evacuation, Mosfekur Rahman wrote on Facebook, “I’ve heard the AC in a tank is quite comfortable.” The sarcastic remark drew sharp criticism, sparking protests in Dinajpur led by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Demonstrators, led by the organisation’s Dinajpur district convener Ekramul Islam Abir, began sit-ins in front of the Dinajpur SP Office gate on Wednesday night, demanding Mosfekur’s immediate removal and arrest. Abir accused the police official of making derogatory and mocking remarks about the attacked NCP leaders and their supporters.

In response to the uproar, Additional DIG (Headquarters, Additional Duty) Mia Masud Karim issued an order instructing Mosfekur Rahman to report to police headquarters on July 17.

Dinajpur Superintendent of Police Md Marufat Hossain later met with the protesting students and confirmed that Mosfekur Rahman had been officially withdrawn and would report to headquarters as instructed.
