Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) Joint Secretary General Zainal Abedin Shishir addressed an Iftar gathering at Bagmara High School field, Lalmai, Cumilla, where he reiterated his party’s firm stance against the Awami League’s past actions and called for legal accountability.

Speaking before a large crowd of NCP activists and supporters, Shishir criticised the Awami League’s political legacy, alleging that it was responsible for past incidents of political violence and repression. He urged citizens to remain vigilant and assist law enforcement in ensuring justice for alleged past transgressions. “If there are individuals involved in past acts of political violence, they should be handed over to the authorities,” he stated.

Shishir also addressed the historical significance of the July Revolution, which led to a political transition in the country. He called for state recognition of those who lost their lives during the movement, urging the government to officially acknowledge their sacrifices. “The martyrs of July deserve national recognition. We call on the government to publish the July Declaration and work towards the establishment of the Second Republic,” he said.

The NCP leader also expressed concerns over geopolitical influences in Bangladesh’s internal affairs, cautioning against external interference. He criticized former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, alleging that her past political strategies relied on foreign support. “Bangladesh must maintain its sovereignty and resist any external pressures that seek to destabilize its political landscape,” he remarked.

Following the Iftar gathering, NCP activists staged a peaceful procession in Bagmara Bazaar along the Cumilla-Noakhali regional highway, advocating for political reforms and accountability for past governance failures. The demonstration saw participation from over 500 supporters, who called for justice and reforms in the country’s electoral and political system.

Key figures present at the event included NCP Central Committee member Hafsa Jahan, NCP leader Fazle Elahi Rubel, Humayun Kabir, Cumilla Metropolitan Convener of the Baisamya Birodhi Chhatra Andolon (Anti-Discrimination Student Movement) Abu Raihan, and Dhaka University Democratic Students’ Union Joint Secretary Shakil Ahmed.

The event was coordinated by NCP Dhaka Metropolitan member Humayun Kabir, Jatiya Nagorik Committee Monohorganj representative Lutful Hasan Rumi, and Cumilla Metropolitan Baisamya Birodhi Chhatra Andolon leaders Abu Raihan and Rashedul Hasan.

With political discussions around the July Revolution and its impact on Bangladesh’s governance continuing to unfold, NCP’s latest gathering highlights the party’s ongoing commitment to political reform and historical recognition of past movements.
