The National Citizen Party (NCP) has declared its preparedness for the upcoming elections, stressing, however, that the party’s readiness extends beyond merely participating in the polls. During a press conference at the central office of the Jatiya Nagorik Committee in Banglamotor on Friday, NCP Convener Nahid Islam emphasized that the party is prepared, but that visible judicial actions are a critical prerequisite for moving forward.

Islam stated, “We have the mentality and preparation for the election, but it’s not just about the election. We want to see visible judicial actions first. Specifically, we want to see the implementation of the July uprising declaration in the shortest possible time.”

Islam also highlighted the importance of addressing the country’s current issues, including the recent rise in violence against women. He voiced the NCP’s concern and condemnation over these incidents, urging the interim government to take strict action to ensure the safety of women in public spaces. “The government must ensure that the perpetrators of such violence are brought to justice,” he added.

Islam further discussed the state of law and order in the country, emphasizing the need to improve security and stability before the elections. “The current police administration lacks the experience required to conduct free and fair elections. Their capability has not been tested for a long time, and the law and order situation needs to be addressed,” he said.

In addition to the election-related discussions, Islam announced that the NCP would host two significant iftar parties. The first will take place at Suhrawardy Udyan on Monday and will include all stakeholders involved in the July and August events. The second event, scheduled for Tuesday, will invite political parties, civil society members, and prominent individuals from various sectors to further engage in dialogue and collaboration.

Secretary General of the NCP, Akhtar Hossain, also spoke at the press conference, reaffirming the party’s commitment to working toward a fair and just electoral process, while ensuring the safety and security of all citizens leading up to the elections.

The NCP’s comments underscore the growing importance of judicial reform and addressing social issues, such as violence against women, as key elements in the lead-up to the general elections. The party’s call for judicial action and the implementation of past declarations signals a desire for broader political reforms before the country moves forward with the election process.
