NCC, Ayat Education hold discussion on palliative care

To promote public support and awareness for palliative care, and in observance of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2024, a discussion meeting was held in Narayanganj. Organised under the theme “Ten Years of the Resolution: How Far Have We Progressed?” the event was jointly hosted by the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) and Ayat Education.

The meeting took place on Wednesday in the conference room of NCC as part of the “Compassionate Narayanganj” initiative. NCC Administrator AHM Kamruzzaman attended it as chief guest.

Presided over by Laila Karim, Project Director of Ayat Education, and moderated by Project Coordinator Sumit Banik, the event also welcomed special guests such as Mohammad Zakir Hossain, the Chief Executive Officer of Narayanganj City Corporation, Secretary (Deputy Secretary) Md. Noor Kutubul Alam, and Dr. AFM Mushiar Rahman, Civil Surgeon of Narayanganj.

The event saw participation from various officials from both government and non-government sectors. Dr. Md. Ashraf Uddin Ahmed, an associate professor at BIRDEM General Hospital and a specialist in palliative care, presented on palliative care practices.

At the conclusion of the event, the “Compassionate Narayanganj” project honored the City Corporation Administrator and the Civil Surgeon with commemorative plaques and awarded certificates of recognition to 25 project volunteers for their contributions.

The three-year pilot project “Compassionate Narayanganj” primarily aims to integrate palliative care into primary healthcare.

It is dedicated to alleviating the physical, mental, social, and spiritual suffering of individuals with incurable, life-limiting illnesses during their final stages of life, thus improving their quality of life.
