NBR seeks suspension of 7 companies shares transfer

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has issued a letter seeking suspension of shares transfer (purchase-sale and donation) of 7 companies listed in the stock market.

Ahsan Habib, Director General of the Central Intelligence Cell of NBR filed this application with the Registrar of Joint Venture Companies and Firms on September 29, 2024.

In the application, he has sought suspension of transfer of shares of Bashundhara Group, Orion Group, Summit Group, Beximco Group, S Alam Group, Nasa Group and Third Wave Technologies Limited (Nagad Limited).

Under Section 223 of the Income Tax Act, 2023, the National Board of Revenue reserves the right to take necessary measures of interim freezing of properties or croaks to prevent tax evasion.

According to the ongoing investigation, there are serious allegations of financial irregularities, including tax evasion, against these companies, says the letter.
