Officials of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), under the banner of the NBR Reform Unity Council, have issued an ultimatum demanding the removal of Chairman Abdur Rahman Khan by May 29, citing a serious lack of confidence in his leadership.

At a press conference on Monday, senior officials said NBR staff no longer trust the chairman’s ability to lead the institution effectively.

Additional Tax Commissioner Monalisa Shaharin, Deputy Tax Commissioner Roisunn Nesa, and NBR Second Secretary Shahadat Jamil spoke on behalf of the protesting officers. Other employees from various departments of the revenue board were also present.

The council announced a programme of non-cooperation with the chairman, while reaffirming their commitment to national revenue goals. In an effort to minimize disruption, the officials pledged to voluntarily work three to four extra hours daily.

They also unveiled plans to host a seminar next month titled “What Kind of NBR Do We Want?”—aimed at opening dialogue on reform priorities and institutional expectations.

The Reform Unity Council consists of NBR officers and staff from multiple wings, united in their call for change at the top leadership level.
