NBR nears FY25 goal with 83pc collection
Staff Reporter :
The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has collected Tk 3,27,782 crore (Tk 3.28 trillion) in revenue during the first 11 months of the current 2024-25 fiscal year, achieving 83.10 percent of its revised annual target of Tk 3,94,460 crore.
The data was officially released on Thursday (19 June) by NBR Public Relations Officer Md Al-Amin Sheikh following a high-level performance
review meeting chaired by NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan.
The meeting focused on revenue collection progress across the Customs and VAT divisions up to May 2025. Senior officials from the Customs and VAT divisions, including Directors General, Commissioners, and First and Second Secretaries based in Dhaka, attended the meeting in person, while officials from outside the capital joined virtually.
Chairman Khan stressed the importance of maximising revenue collection in the final month of the fiscal year. He urged a strategic and target-driven approach, directing officials to prioritise the recovery of arrears and expand intelligence-led efforts to curb tax evasion and revenue leakage.
He further noted that improved revenue mobilisation is critical not only for financing the national budget but also for reducing reliance on debt. Khan called on all field-level officers to intensify their efforts in order to exceed the revised revenue target before the fiscal year ends.
According to the NBR, the current collection marks a 6 percent year-on-year increase compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year – an encouraging trend despite persistent economic headwinds.
