The government has appointed Md Nazrul Islam as the 39th secretary of Rural Development and Co-operatives Division of Bangladesh, Ministry of Public Administration said on Monday.
A career administrator, Nazrul Islam joined the cadre service Bangladesh in 1993.
Nazrul, from the 11th batch of the BCS (administration) Cadre, served extensively at home.
Prior to his appointment as secretary of RDC Division, he was serving as secretary of Local Government Division in routine duties. After regime changes, he was working in this ministry as Additional secretary development and additional responsibilities administrator of south city corporation, one project director supported by JICA.
He also served at Anti Corruption Commission (ACC), Ministry of Water Resources, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change and Ministry of Public Administration with reputation.
Md Nazrul Islam have pursued his Bachelor’s from the Department of Statistics, Jahangirnagr University. Later on, he obtained an MA Degree in Islamic Studies from Asian University of Bangladesh. He started his career as assistant commissioner at Rajshahi Division office in 1993.
When asked about the promotion after a long time, he told The New Nation that “I am one of those who did not get promotion during the rule of Awami government. I was promoted to Senior Assistant Secretary in 2001. It has not been promoted in the last 17 years. It is the highest deprived in the civil service administration.”
