WaterAid Bangladesh hosted a national workshop titled “Addressing Resilience Losses of Climate-Induced Migrants in Southwest Bangladesh Affected by COVID-19 Pandemic” at Lakeshore Heights in Dhaka. The event showcased project interventions, learnings, and recommendations aiming to replicate successes at institutional levels.
The project targeted climate-induced migrants in urban slums of Khulna and Satkhira, addressing vulnerabilities worsened by the pandemic. Using a three-pronged approach, it aimed to build resilience and improve livelihoods. Beneficiaries like Rupali Begum and Jannatul Ferdous Irani shared stories of empowerment through grant support and training initiatives.
Chief guest Professor Emeritus Dr Ainun Nishat emphasized rainwater harvesting and tackling climate unpredictability, saying, “Climate change is highly unpredictable, and addressing these uncertainties is crucial for supporting livelihoods.”
Dr Md Golam Rabbani, Head of Secretariat of BRAC’s Climate Bridge Fund (CBF), praised the multi-sectoral approach, noting, “This initiative is a prime example of how WASH can integrate with other sectors to bring true transformational change.”
