With the slogan “Child to Elderly – Nutritious Food Universal,” National Nutrition Week 2025 was officially inaugurated in Tarash Upazila of Sirajganj on Wednesday morning.
The inauguration ceremony was held at the Upazila Health Complex Hall, where Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Nurul Islam formally announced the commencement of the week-long program.
During the event, Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer Dr. Erfan Ahmed delivered a keynote speech emphasizing the significance of National Nutrition Week. He explained the critical role of nutritious food in human health, the nutritional value of various food items, and the problems caused by the lack of proper nutrition in the daily diet.
Dr. Ahmed also outlined several initiatives to raise awareness during the week, including nutrition-focused campaigns through mosque imams, drawing competitions for schoolchildren, and the distribution of nutritious food in orphanages.
Other distinguished speakers at the event included Upazila Livestock Officer Dr. Aminul Islam, Fisheries Officer Moshgul Azad, Resident Medical Officer Dr. Mustafa Kamal, Dr. Omar Farooq, Family Planning Officer Nitai Kumar Mahato, Agriculture Extension Officer Nasir Ahmed Khan, President of Tarash Press Club Professor Sabbir Ahmed, and Reporters Unity General Secretary Abdul Babik Khandkar.
The event aimed to promote awareness about the importance of balanced and nutritious diets across all age groups and to mobilize community participation in ensuring food security and nutritional well-being in the region.
