Sr. Staff Reporter, Rangpur :
Various programs were celebrated in Rangpur on the occasion of National Legal Aid Day. On Monday (April 28) morning, the day-long program was inaugurated by releasing balloons in the court premises with the slogan ‘There is no joy in conflict, compromise brother, legal aid is there, no worries’. After that, a public awareness rally was held around the important roads of the city.
The discussion meeting organized by the District Legal Aid Committee was chaired by Senior District and Sessions Judge FazleKhoda Md. Nazir, Metropolitan Sessions Judge MashiurRahman Khan, Cyber Tribunal Judge Dr. Abdul Majid, Judge of Women’s Torture Tribunal-1 Mostafa Kamal, Additional Divisional Commissioner Ashraful Islam, Chief Judicial Magistrate Tariq Hossain, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zulkar Nain, President of District Lawyers Association Shahed Kamal IbneKhatib, beneficiaries FatemaKhatun, Hafizul Islam. District Legal Aid Officer and Senior Judicial Magistrate TalmaPradhan delivered the welcome speech.
The speakers at the discussion meeting said that many poor people in the villages cannot hire lawyers to fight cases. As a result, they are seen roaming around the court. Free legal services are being provided to these poor people through the District Legal Aid Office. A large panel of lawyers of Legal Aid is engaged for their legal services. Along with this, Legal Aid is also resolving disputes through conciliation. This will prevent harassment and litigation expenses of the service recipients. We want all the lawyers of the Lawyers’ Association to come forward to work like the panel lawyers of Legal Aid. The best panel lawyer, MatiarRahman, was honored at the discussion meeting. In addition, a voluntary blood donation program and cultural programs were performed in the court premises on the occasion of the day.
