The Ministry of Environment has collected a total fine of Tk 9.47 million in a special crackdown on air pollution across the country. The fines were imposed in 33 cases handled by 11 mobile courts for various offences related to air pollution.
According to a press release from the ministry, the crackdown targeted illegal brick kilns, vehicles emitting black smoke, noise pollution, and the open storage of construction materials that contribute to air contamination. During the operation, 13 brick kiln chimneys were demolished, operations at these kilns were halted, and 11 hydraulic horns were confiscated.
The campaign was led by 11 officials from the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change. The fines were collected from several sources, including Tk 11,000 from five vehicles found emitting black smoke and Tk 9.45 million from 25 brick kilns for pollution violations.
Additionally, two vehicles were fined Tk 5,000 for noise pollution, and five drivers were issued warnings. A company was fined Tk 5,000 for storing construction materials in an open area, while seven other companies received warnings for similar violations.
The Ministry of Environment has announced that this anti-pollution campaign will continue as part of ongoing efforts to curb environmental damage and improve air quality across the country.
