Tangail, August 30, 2025: In a dramatic turn of events, leaders and activists of the Gono Adhikar Porishad (People’s Rights Council) vandalized the office of the Tangail District National Party (Jatiyo Party) and blocked the Dhaka-Tangail highway today, Saturday morning.

At around 11:30 AM, a group of over 100 Gono Adhikar Porishad members, led by their president Nurul Haque Nur, launched a protest march against what they called attacks on their party members by the National Party and law enforcement agencies. The protest began near the Tangail district police station and proceeded towards the National Party office located on Shaiani Bazaar Road, in the heart of the town.

As the march reached the office, the demonstrators began to vandalize the building. In a further escalation, they entered the premises, breaking chairs and causing considerable damage. The protests continued with the activists moving towards the Ashikpur area on the Dhaka-Tangail highway, where they proceeded to block the road, causing significant traffic disruption for nearly an hour.

The situation was brought under control after the intervention of the Bangladesh Army, which helped disperse the protesters and clear the roadblock. Subsequently, the protesters withdrew from the site.

Tangail Sadar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC), Tanvir Ahmed, commented, “We made several attempts to control the situation, and now police forces are deployed in the area to prevent any further disruptions.”

Authorities are investigating the cause behind the violence and damage to public property, and efforts are underway to restore normalcy in the area. The Gono Adhikar Porishad has called for more protests unless their demands are met.
