National Legal Aid Day was celebrated in Sylhet with the slogan ‘There is no joy in conflict, make peace – there is no worry when there is Legal Aid’.
On this occasion, a colorful rally and discussion meeting was held on Monday morning at the initiative of the District Legal Aid.
The discussion meeting held at Chief Judicial Magistrate’s Court conference room organized by the District Legal Aid Committee.
Sylhet District and Sessions Judge (Acting) Mahmudul Hasan
said that access to justice is a constitutional right of the people. In many cases, ordinary people can be deprived of justice due to various complications including economic discrimination. Justice must be ensured for the incompetent people.
Stating that the Legal Aid Act was enacted in 2000 to ensure equality before the law for all citizens, District and Sessions Judge (Acting) Mahmudul Hasan said, providing legal aid is not just a professional responsibility. It is our responsibility from the perspective of religion, humanity and morality. He called on the district panel lawyers to fulfill this responsibility properly.
Mahmudul Hasan said, National Legal Aid Day has been celebrated on April 28 since 2013, from the national level to the grassroots level.
Expressing gratitude to the National Legal Aid Organization for Pallabi Roy being selected as the best lawyer in Bangladesh on behalf of the Sylhet District Legal Aid Committee, he further said, the panel lawyers must maintain this continuity. He expressed hope that in the future, the activities of Sylhet Legal Aid will surpass those of other districts and become the best legal aid office in Bangladesh.
Aid and Labour Court Chairman (District and Sessions Judge) Nurul Alam Mohammad Nipu, Divisional Special Judge Shahadat Hossain Pramanik, Chief Judicial Magistrate ANM Ilias, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md. Abu Obaida, Metropolitan Sessions Judge Rajib Kumar, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development and Human Resource Management) Padmasan Singh, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Ops) Md. Rafiqul Islam and others also spoke at the meeting.
