The National Primary Education Week 2025 was officially inaugurated on Saturday with a renewed commitment to fostering inclusive and quality education under the theme “Ensure quality education, build a discrimination-free Bangladesh.”

The event, held at the Multipurpose Conference Hall of the Directorate of Primary Education, also saw the presentation of the Primary Education Medal 2024 to outstanding contributors.

Speaking as the chief guest, Dr. C. R. Abrar, Adviser to the Ministry of Education, stressed the need to nurture students’ latent talents. “We must take responsibility for nurturing the hidden potential of our students,”

He highlighted the importance of recognising and encouraging creativity, especially through platforms like debate competitions.

Dr. Abrar underscored the need for coordinated efforts between the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, calling for integrated initiatives that allow students to grow both academically and personally.

He pointed out that the slogan for this year’s education week not only reflects the goals of the primary education sector but also speaks to the broader vision of the national education system.
“Educational institutions are where the nation’s builders are made. Even with limited time and resources in government, I feel a deep sense of responsibility to support our young learners,” he said.

The adviser acknowledged that while families have entrusted schools with the upbringing of children, the process often faces challenges due to varying social and political dynamics.
He called for a united effort from all local stakeholder teachers, parents, and community leaders to ensure consistent educational outcomes.

Addressing the role of teachers, Dr. Abrar stated, “Teaching is not just a profession-it’s a noble calling.” He emphasised the need to honor educators, regardless of their level be it primary school teachers or university vice-chancellors despite the nation’s limited resources.

“We reaffirm our commitment to upholding the dignity of teachers,” he added.
The adviser also highlighted the importance of parental involvement beyond school governance, suggesting that greater engagement could significantly improve institutional performance.
He advocated for a balanced education system where academic learning is complemented by extracurricular activities such as music, dance, recitation, and sports.

“Education is the most effective tool for eliminating inequality,” he said, calling on the state to provide an environment that allows children to fully explore and express their talents.
“Education is not just a path to employment-it is a means to shape principled human beings,” he added, urging a reduction in academic pressure in favor of a more holistic developmental approach.

The event concluded with the distribution of the Primary Education Medal 2024 to distinguished recipients in recognition of their contributions to the sector.

The ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar, Adviser to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. Abu Taher Md. Masud Rana, secretary of the ministry, attended the event as a special guest.
