The 53rd National Cooperative Day, 2024 was celebrated in Rangpur with the theme of ‘Cooperatively build the country, Bangladesh without discrimination’. On the occasion of the day, Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md. Shahidul Islam was present as the chief guest in the discussion meeting held at Rangpur Divisional Commissioner’s conference room on Saturday.
In the chief guest’s speech at the meeting, the Divisional Commissioner said that the history of cooperative societies is almost as old as the history of human civilization. The present organizational form of cooperative society was established some time before the industrial revolution in Europe. Co-operative is an institution, which is established for the common good of all.
Regarding the establishment of discrimination-free Bangladesh, he said, due to discrimination, we could not reach the desired goal of development. And the root cause of this discrimination is corruption. All must work together to prevent corruption. The current government is working to eliminate corruption and establish a discrimination-free Bangladesh.
He called upon all concerned to fulfill their responsibilities with dedication in building a cooperative and non-discriminatory society.
Rangpur Divisional Commissioner Md. Shahidul Islam handed over mementos to the successful entrepreneurs of upazila level cooperative societies after the discussion meeting.
Rangpur Range DIG Aminul Islam and District Commissioner Mohammad Rabiul Faisal spoke as special guests under the chairmanship of MrinalKantiBiswas, joint registrar of Rangpur division. Journalists including government officials, members of various cooperative societies at the upazila level were present in the event.
