Bangladesh has been gripped by a wave of alarming rape incidents in recent days, with seven reported cases across the country. Among the most shocking incidents is the arrest of a father in Dhaka for allegedly raping his 14-year-old child, sparking outrage and deepening concerns over the rising frequency of such horrific crimes. As authorities scramble to address the growing crisis, citizens remain in a state of panic and demand urgent action.
At least seven horrific rape incidents occurred in different parts of the country in last couple of days.
Police have arrested two individuals, Ashraful Islam Siam, 20, and Jeet Sarkar, 19, in connection with the Keraniganj incident as a four-month pregnant woman has been gang-raped.
Confirming the matter to journalists, Inspector Md Mosharraf Hossain Mia, in charge of the Jajira police outpost under South Keraniganj police station, said that the woman was lured with promises of food and shelter and taken to an abandoned house in the Pangao Rishipara area of Keraniganj on Saturday night, where she was gang-raped. A 14-year-old girl has allegedly been raped in the capital city amid reports of much talk rape incidents in Magura and South Keraniganj.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of South Keraniganj Police Station, Mazharul Islam, said that the woman had come to Dhaka Sadarghat yesterday due to a dispute with her husband. The two youths talked to the woman around 10:00 pm and took her to an abandoned house. Later, she was raped by three people there.
In Dhaka, another 14-year-old girl has allegedly been raped in Dhaka amid reports of rape incidents in Magura and South Keraniganj.
Police said the girl had alleged that she was raped by her father, a rickshaw puller, on Saturday night.
The incident occurred at a tin shed house in East Hajipara Bou Bazar of the capital’s Rampura.
Police arrested the accused, Anwarul Islam, and rescued the girl after the incident was reported at night.
An eight-year-old girl from Magura, brutally raped while visiting her elder sister’s home, was transferred from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon for specialised care.
DMCH Deputy Director Ashraful Alam confirmed the transfer at around 5:00pm, noting that the decision followed a visit from Social Welfare Adviser Sharmin Murshid earlier that day.
Earlier, Adviser Sharmin Murshid came to see the child this afternoon,” Alam said. “Based on her advice and the recommendation of the medical board overseeing the girl’s treatment, we decided to shift her to CMH for better facilities.” Hospital sources reported that the child was transported in a cardiac ambulance after 5:00pm, accompanied by a team of doctors.

A young girl has accused her father, Anwarul Islam, a rickshaw puller, of raping her on Saturday night. The incident allegedly took place at a tin-shed house in East Hajipara Bou Bazar, located in the Rampura area of the capital.
Following the report of the crime, police promptly intervened, arresting the accused and rescuing the victim. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
Rampura Police Station Sub-Inspector Shafiqur Rahman says the girl has two younger siblings.
“Anwarul’s wife died around a month ago, leaving three children. They used to live in a house where the incident took place at midnight.”
The victim has been sent to the One-Stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
In Gazipur, a 27-year-old man has been arrested for raping an eight-year-old girl, recording the incident and disseminating the video.
The suspect has reportedly admitted to his crimes
Locals captured Arman from Sreepur Upazila’s Barmi on Saturday (March 8) evening and handed him over to police. The victim is a class III student at a local school.
Police say Arman raped the child on March 6 and shared a recording of the incident on social media two days later. The perpetrator admitted to his crimes and claimed that he was under the influence of drugs.
Sreepur Police Station’s Inspector Md Shamim Akter said they rescued the child and took her into custody. “We’ve arrested the suspect and seized the mobile phone containing the video,” he said.
In Narsingdi, a seven-month pregnant woman was gang-raped for three days after a man trapped her in a building promising to help her arrested husband secure bail. The victim woman filed a case in this regard on Saturday (March 8) noon with the Madhabdi Police Station in Narsingdi Sadar Upazila. Soon after filing the case, police arrested the main culprit named Iqbal.
Two other people, including Pappu, have been made accused in the case.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Madhabdi Police Station Md Nazrul Islam confirmed the news.
OC Nazrul Islam said, “A culprit was arrested in a case filed for his alleged involvement in raping a pregnant woman. Drives are underway to arrest the remaining accused.”
Marking the issues, Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that all those involved in the child rape incident in Magura have been arrested. The maximum punishment will be ensured against them through legal process.
The home adviser said this while addressing a press briefing after a meeting on Sunday (March 9).
He said the government has a strict zero-tolerance policy for rape and violence against women and children.
In Faridpur , police arrested a 14-year-old juvenile for allegedly raping a four-year-old child Sadar upazila last night.
The victim’s father filed a case with the Kotwali Police Station this afternoon, and the accused was sent to jail by the court, according to Md Assaduzzaman, the police station’s office in-charge.
In this regards, Inamul Haque Sagar, AIG (Media and PR) of the Police Headquarters, told The New Nation that police are very alert to capture the culprits who are involved rape incidents and others harassments.
We believe beside police, people should cooperate socially and culturally to curb such notorious offence in the society, AIG Inamul Haque added.
