Narayanganj’s Fatullah police have registered a case over the gang rape of a woman after her husband was abducted, tortured, and filmed, with the video later used to blackmail her.
Fatullah Model Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Shariful Islam confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that the survivor filed the case late Tuesday night, accusing two men of the crime.
According to the case statement, the young couple got married on January 10 in a love marriage, but their families did not approve. As a result, the woman rented a house in East Lamapara, Fatullah, while her husband stayed in a separate rented home in the same area.
On February 18, around 12:30 AM, the woman’s husband was on his way to visit her when he was intercepted by a group led by Nazmul, son of Monir from East Lamapara, and his associate Roni.
They forcibly took him to an undisclosed location, subjected him to physical torture, and recorded a video of the abuse.
Using the video as leverage, Nazmul and Roni later took turns raping the woman. They also stole two mobile phones and cash from the couple before fleeing.
OC Shariful Islam noted that the crime was not reported to the police immediately, which allowed the suspects to escape.
However, a case has now been registered, and multiple police teams are working to apprehend the accused.
