Bangladesh cricket star Tamim Iqbal has regained consciousness after being admitted to the hospital following a heart attack. According to BCB’s chief physician, Dr. Debashish Chowdhury, Tamim is now able to communicate with his family members and doctors.
Speaking to reporters at KPJ Specialized Hospital this afternoon, Dr. Chowdhury mentioned that Tamim will remain under observation for the next 48 hours, with the first 24 hours being crucial for his recovery.
Several of Tamim’s family members and teammates have visited him at the hospital. His longtime teammates Mushfiqur Rahim, Mahmudullah Riyad, all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz and spinner Taijul Islam came straight from BKSP after playing a match to see him.
Earlier in the day, Tamim had traveled to BKSP to play in the Dhaka Premier League for Mohammedan Sporting Club. He captained the team and took part in the toss against Shinepukur Cricket Club. However, he later complained of chest pain and was immediately taken to the hospital.
At one point, there was an attempt to airlift him to Dhaka, but his deteriorating condition made it impossible. He was then rushed to KPJ Specialized Hospital, where doctors discovered a blockage in his heart. A stent (ring) has been placed to aid his recovery.
