A superb century from Mushfiqur Rahim guided Bangladesh to earn a massive 103-run victory over Sri Lanka according to Duckworth/Lewis Method in their rain-interrupted second One Day International (ODI) match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the city’s Mirpur on Tuesday.
By virtue of yesterday’s victory, Bangladesh clinched the ODI series 2-0. It was for the first time the Tigers won an ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Mushfiqur Rahim notched up a terrific 125. His 127-ball innings was studded with 10 fours. Mushfiqur Rahim was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
Electing to bat first, Bangladesh piled up a satisfactory total of 246 off 48.1 overs and then Sri Lanka were restricted to 141 for the loss of nine wickets in 40 overs. Sri Lanka had a revised target of 245 runs to win in 40 overs.
Bangladesh lost their early four wickets for 74 runs. Opener Tamim Iqbal was dismissed for 13, opener Liton Das was sent home for 25, one-down Shakib Al Hasan was removed for a duck and third-down Mosaddek Hossain was dismissed for just 10 runs.
Later, ‘Mr Dependable’ Mushfiqur Rahim and ‘Mr Finisher’ Mahmudullah Riyad rescued their team from debacle contributing together 87 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Riyad was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kusal Perera off Lakshan Sandakan when the hosts’ total was 161 for the loss of five wickets.
Riyad hit a polished 41. He struck two sixes and a four in his 58-ball innings.
After Riyad’s dismissal, Afif Hossain (10) was caught at the mid-on by Pathum Nissanka off Isuru Udana when the home side’s total was 178 for the loss of six wickets. Sixth-down Mehidy Hasan Miraz (0) was cleanly bowled out by Wanindu Hasaranga when the hosts’ score was 184 for the loss of seven wickets.
Number-Nine batsman Mohammad Saifuddin (11) was run out by a direct throw of Kusal Mendis when the hosts’ total was 232 for the loss of eight wickets.
Debutante Shoriful Islam (0) was caught behind by Kusal Perera off Isuru Udana when Bangladesh’s score was 246 for the loss of nine wickets.
After, Shoriful’s dismissal, Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the point by Ashen Bandara off Dushmantha Chameera when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.
Dushmantha Chameera and Lakshan Sandakan grabbed three wickets each at the cost of 44 and 54 runs respectively, while Isuru Udana bagged a pair of wickets in the space of 49 runs.
Wanindu Hasaranga took one wicket conceding 33 runs.
Later, Sri Lankan batsmen failed to resist superb bowling attack of Bangladesh bowlers.
No batsmen of Sri Lanka could score a respectable total.
‘Cutter Master’ Mustafizur Rahman and off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz captured three wickets each in the space of 16 and 28 runs respectively, while Shakib Al Hasan bagged two wickets at the cost of 38 runs.
Besides, Shoriful Islam took one wicket for 30 runs.
