She was taken to the stage to perform at the age of three and a half.
She grew up in a culturally diverse family where her sisters were involved in singing, dancing, and acting in theatre plays.
Her father rendered Nazrul Sangeet and modern songs. Her father was a student of Jaganmoy Mitra. He could also play the flute very beautifully.
Basically, her singing career began with her sisters. Later, she learned Tagore songs from late Kalim Sharafi, Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya, Pijush Barua, Hashi Biswas and others in different times. She is none of others, Seema Sarker – a multitalented Tagore artiste and presenter who can also dance and act well.
According to the singer, ‘Sangeet Bhaban’ played a pivotal role in her music learning career. She was direct student of late Kalim Sharafi.
Seema Sarker is a devotee of Rabindranath Tagore. She has been a member of the Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha since 2002.
In 2004, she officially joined noted Tagore artiste Rezwana Chowdhury Bannya’s music school, ‘Surer Dhara’. She has been teaching there since 2008.
Besides rendering songs, Seema is well-known for presenting programmes. She regularly presented Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) programmes from 2010 to 2014.
Basically her presentation began with a project by UNDP titled ‘Music For Development’. Actually, this project was about slum children.
Therefore, since 2006 she started acting. She also performed dance dramas like ‘Tasher Desh’ of Rabindranath Tagore.
Seema Sarker is an A-Grade artiste of Bangladesh Television and Betar. She is regularly performing in different private satellite channels.
Seema Sarker teaches at Sunnydale School for a long time. She is the EC member of ‘Sangeet Bhaban’ and Bangladesh Rabindra Sangeet Shilpi Sangstha.
She was also German language teacher from 2010 to 2012. She taught language to children between the ages of 12 and 18.
Seema also learned music from Ajoy Das, Krishnakanto Acharya, Barkat Hossain, Shamima Parvin, Aminur Rahman Nijhu, Azizur Rahman Tuhin, among others.
In academic career, Seema is an MA in English Literature. Now she is doing Post-Graduate Diploma in Music from National University.
While talking about her music career and future planning, Seema Sarker told this correspondent, “I have a desire to work and study music.
I consider it my responsibility to preserve Rabindranath Tagore’s songs and reach the current generation.
Now many melodies are being distorted. I think measures should be taken to make music easier for the new generation.”
