In KulauraUpazila of Moulvibazar, farmers are getting interested in vegetable cultivation by mulching method. The poor farmers Hannan Mia, AbdurNur, Narayan Chandra Bhowmik, Ram De Rajbhar, LoniMalakar, Mamunur Rashid of Brahmanbazar Union have already become self-sufficient by cultivating vegetables in this way.

Farmers Hannan Miah, Swapan Miah, Mamunur Rashid said that they have cultivated various types of vegetables using mulching method on 30 percent of the land with the funding of Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) under Integrated Agriculture Unit Agriculture Sector and with the overall cooperation of Heed Bangladesh.
The yield has been good and the farmers are happy to get a good price by selling it in the market. He also said that mulching is a type of polythene which controls the temperature.
It also protects the plant from pathogens, prevents excess water and weeds grow less at the base of the tree.
In order to grow vegetables in this method, the land is first prepared
The bed should be made by mixing the required fertilizer with the soil.
The width of the bed will be one meter. The distance from one bed to another bed will be 30 cm.
Then all the beds made in the land should be covered with mulching polythene. In this, farmers are getting several times more profit by cultivating crops on small land at low cost.
Muhammad SuhelSikder, KulauraUpazila Agriculture Officer of Heed Bangladesh, said that Mulching method has become vegetables are popular in cultivation.
This method takes less labor and time to grow vegetables, and the cost is also less. In this method, vegetables can be cultivated throughout the year.
So the farmers of the area are now turning to mulching method. Md. Deil Islam, regional manager of Heed Bangladesh said that Heed Bangladesh always works for the welfare of farmers.
Use of mulching method so that the farmer spends less time and money
Advised Kulaura Upazila Agriculture Officer Muhammad Jasim Uddin said that farmers will benefit from mulching.
A distance of 18 inches should be kept for planting seedlings in the bed. Farmers will benefit more by planting vegetable seedlings in those holes with 4 inch diameter pipes.
