The protest rally scheduled for today after Jumma to remove the Sheikh Mujib mural installed in front of the Sylhet Deputy Commissioner’s office turned into a thanksgiving rally. The Deputy Commissioner removed the picture of Sheikh Mujib from the mural last night in anticipation of the Tawheedi caravan rally.
The rally held in city’s Court Point was presided over by Tawheedi caravan convener Maulana Mushtaq Ahmed Khan, speakers said although it is late, the Deputy Commissioner has removed the mural. Our movement is not just against a mural, but against the culture of idols and sculptures. Any kind of sculptor will not be accepted on the land of Sylhet.
Speakers at the rally said that a statue of Sheikh Mujib has been covered with a cloth in the Sylhet Cantonment and said that it must be removed immediately, otherwise the Tawheedi Kafila will be forced to take up the program.
The rally was addressed by former mayor of Sylhet Corporation Ariful Haque Chowdhury, advisor of the Tawheedi Kafela, Nayeb-e-Ameer of Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis, Maulana Rezaul Karim Jalali, acting president of Sylhet Metropolitan BNP, Koyes Ludi, member secretary of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) Tawhidi Kafela, Maulana Shah Momshad Ahmed, central organizing secretary of the Islamic Movement, Advocate Mahmudul Hasan, president of Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam, Sylhet Metropolis, Maulana Khalilur Rahman, president of Imam Samiti, Sylhet Metropolitan, Maulana Habib Ahmed Shihab, coordinator of the Metropolitan Qawmi Madrasa Oikya Parishad, Maulana Syed Shamim Ahmed, Maulana Rafiqul Islam Mushtaq, G.S. Akhtar Ahmed of Al-Habib Students’ Union, and student leader Khubayeb Bin. Jamil, Mukabbir Hussain and others.
