MP Rana, 3 brothers expelled from AL

Amanur Rahman Khan Rana, Awami League (AL) MP from Tangail-3, and his three siblings have been expelled from the district unit of the ruling party.
The district unit AL took the decision on Monday at its working committee meeting presided over by Zila Parishad chairman
and also district AL President Fazlur Rahman Khan Faruk at Zila Parishad auditorium, said Joaherul Islam, general secretary of the district unit of AL.
They have been expelled on various allegations, including their suspected involvement in the freedom fighter Faruk Ahmed murder case and another filed for attempt to kill Ghatail upazila unit BCL leader Abu Sayeed Rubel, he said.
MP Rana, his three brothers-Shahidur Rahman Khan Mukti, former mayor of Tangail municipality, Jahidur Rahman Khan Kakon, former president of Chambers and Commerce in Tangail and Saniat Khan Bappa, former vice-president of central unit of BCL-are among the charge-sheeted accused in the Faruk murder case.
Joaherul said the decision to expel the four brothers will be sent to the central committee for the final approval. They will be expelled from the party following the approval of the central Awami League, he added.
Faruk Ahmed, a senior AL leader and a freedom fighter, was shot dead in the district town on January 18, 2013.
In February 2026, detectives pressed charges against 14 people, including Amanur Rahman Rana and his three brothers, in the Faruk murder case.
