Aslamul Haque, MP from Dhaka-14, claimed that his wealth statement submitted to the Election Commission, alongside with the nomination paper, contained some misinformation. The MP blamed his consultants for it.
He said this while talking to the newsmen in the head office of the Anti-Corruption Commission on Wednesday.
ACC Deputy Director Sheikh Mesbha Uddin grilled him between 10:am and 12:00 noon on his amassing huge wealth and properties beyond his means.
Aslamul Haque said that he actually owned 4.41 acres of land. But 441 acres were inadvertently quoted in the affidavit.
Earlier, former Health Minister Ruhal Haque gave similar statement to the journalists after facing interrogation in the ACC head office.
As per the affidavit submitted last year by Aslamul Haque to the Election Commission before the 10th parliamentary election held on January 5 this year, he and his wife stated that they owned 441 acres of land..
However, Aslamul in his affidavit before the 9th parliamentary polls in 2008 mentioned that he and his wife had 4.19 acres of land worth Tk 2 million only.
On January 12, 2014, the ACC launched probes into the allegations of unusual wealth accumulation by seven politicians, including Aslamul.
The ACC in its first phase is conducting investigation into the graft allegations directed against former Health Minister Dr AFM Ruhal Haque, former State Minister for Housing and Public Works Abdul Mannan Khan, former State Minister for Water Resources M Mahbubur Rahman, Enamul Haque, MP, (Rajshahi-4), Abdur Rahman Bodi, MP, (Ukhia-Teknaf), Aslamul Haque, MP, (Dhaka-14) and Abdul Jabbar, a former MP (Satkhira-2).
