Sheikh Arif Bulbon :
All over the country, the movement of students demanding reform of
the quota system in the government jobs continues. Although the showbiz stars were silent on this issue at first, many have come forward after the attack on the students on Monday.
Condemning the attack on the students, several stars of the showbiz arena have posted on social media and expressed their positions in favour of the quota reform.
Popular film actress Pori Moni shared a photo of an injured student and wrote, “You are a hypocrite if you are silent on violence against women.”
Another film actress Shobnom Bubly wrote, “Why should the students bleed?” Requesting the Prime Minister, actor Niloy Alamgir wrote, “Honorable Prime Minister, the students of today are the future of tomorrow. They will lead the country in future. So, many students can make wrong claims. As a child of a freedom-fighter, please reform the quota. We are grateful to you for the respect and love you have always shown to the freedom-fighters of Bangladesh and their families. But freedom-fighters and their families are a laughing stock to the people of the country. Accept the quota reforms even if the place is kept right in honour of the freedom-fighters. The agitating students have to endure this plight. The whole nation is waiting for your decision.”
Dhaka University’s former student and actor Siam Ahmed has asked for a response to the attack on the students of the university.
He wrote on Facebook, “Why is my campus bloody? Why do students bleed?”
Meanwhile, supporting the students’ movement, director Sumon Anwar wrote, “Great Dhaka, exciting country. Bangladesh will turn around.”
Meanwhile, director Badrul Anam Saud wrote on Facebook, “One mistake after another. All parties are wrong on that. Logic, thought, statics – all are forgotten. Rumours and power are fighting. The dialogue is sitting helpless.”
Director Khijir Hayat Khan wrote, “Our future is on the streets nationwide today. There are many questions about their slogan but there is no word about why this slogan. The movement of fair rights does not make anyone a razakar, rather the freedom comes through their hands. I stood up for them.”
Director Rezwan Shahriar Sumit wrote, “No matter how much they shout ‘Joy Bangla’ with their chests inflated, I think that today’s Chhatra League of 2024 has some kind of relationship with the great liberation war of 1971. They are nothing but the mindless, misguided, money-grubbing locusts of today. I don’t know what kind of politics this locust army is promoting without discussing with the protesting students. But I can say that it has nothing in common with Bangabandhu’s politics or philosophy. As this locust flourishes, the entire nation becomes senseless, misguided and greedy for money.”
Meanwhile, content creator Salman Muktadir has promised to stand by the students. He wrote, “Is there a student who has been attacked or is unable to enter the hall? I’ll take care of you… If anyone needs a place to stay, or medical care, I’m… I’m really breaking down, feeling embarrassed.”
Band leader of Chirkutt, Sharmin Sultana Sumi wrote, “The safety and prosperity of our university, our generation, future generations; Kindly confirm with consideration.”
It is noted that Sumi’s this post has also been pasted from Chirkutt’s Facebook page with the support of the students. Meanwhile, in a Facebook post, director Ashfaque Nipun called on the students to stand by the movement for quota reform.
However, in addition to protesting the attack on the students, director Mishuk Moni questioned the silence of showbiz people in this context on Facebook.
Meanwhile, many showbiz stars have taken a stand against the quota movement.
They condemned saying ‘Razakar’ in the procession.
Writer and director Masum Reza wrote on Facebook, “Those who were defeated in 1971 are identifying themselves. You are so talented! No ghost is supplying you with so much talent!”
Actor Rawnak Hasan wrote, “Quota reform may be… but it is clear that this movement of thousands of students has been masterminded.”
Actress Shamima Tusty wrote, “Those who do not hesitate to call themselves Razakars, and they are the ones who want quota for government jobs, I wonder what will happen if the country is in their hands.”
On the other hand, the name of the quota reform movement is dishonoring the freedom fighters, said a statement by Actors’ Equity BD.
