Mongla Sea Port have returned to normal. At the same time, cargo handling, revenue income and net profit have increased.
In addition, the modernization of the port has created a far-reaching prospect of importing and exporting transit goods to neighboring countries through Mongla Port.
The information was given by Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman, Chairman of the Authority, on Monday at the 75th founding anniversary and jubilee festival of Mongla Sea Port.
He further said that in the last fiscal year (2024-25), the target of cargo handling at this port was 88 lakh 80 thousand metric tons, but at the end of the fiscal year, the port handled 1 crore 4 lakh 12 thousand metric tons of cargo.
In addition to achieving the target, 1.5 lakh 32 thousand metric tons more cargo was handled.
In addition, although the target of container handling was 20 thousand TEUs, 1 thousand 456 TEUs more containers were handled.
On the other hand, the port earned a revenue of 343 crore 30 lakh taka at the end of the year.
Although the port’s net profit target was Tk.20 crore 46 lakh 20 thousand, a net profit of Tk.62 crore 10 lakh was achieved.
He further said, in the first five months of the current fiscal year, 356 ships arrived, 13,854 TEUs of containers were handled, 4,139 reconditioned vehicles were imported, and 4.4 million tons of goods were imported and exported.
In addition, due to the procurement of modern equipment, it is possible to handle more than 24 containers per hour for the first time.
Due to regular dredging in front of the port jetty, goods are being handled on the same ship at 5 jetties.
This has created a far-reaching prospect of importing and exporting transit goods to neighboring countries through Mongla Port.
On the other hand, the port, the lifeblood of the south-western region, is currently playing a special role in the country’s ongoing economy by importing food grains, cement clinker, fertilizer, motor vehicles, machineries, rice, wheat, coal, oil, stone, corn, oilseeds, LPG gas and exporting white fish, shrimp, jute and jute products, frozen food, crab, clay tiles, silk fabrics and general cargo, in addition to creating employment.
Using Mongla Port, the transportation of goods of Rajshahi, Rangpur and Barisal divisions through land, water and railways is becoming easier and faster.
Several projects are underway to make Mongla Port more modern and world-class, and some projects have been undertaken for future development, said Chairman Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman.
The journey of the Mongla Port Authority began on December 01, 1950. On the occasion of the 75th founding anniversary of the port, according to the enthusiastic lagan, at 12-01 am, all the domestic and foreign ships stationed in the Pashur Channel were whistled for one minute without interruption.
Later, at 11-00 am, a rally was taken out from the port headquarters to the jetty gate of the port in presence of officials and employees and the chairman of the authority, Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman, inaugurated the programme by flying balloons and pigeons.
Later, the 75th port platinum jubilee festival was celebrated inside the port jetty by the authority’s member (Harbor and Marine) Commodore Md. Shafiqul Islam Sarkar, member (Finance) and director (Administration) (A:Da:) Kazi Abed Hossain (Joint Secretary), member (Engineering and Development) Dr. A. K. M. Anisur Rahman (Joint Secretary), Director (Board) Kalachand Singh (Joint Secretary), Captain Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, Harbor Master, Colonel Md. Firoz Wahid, department heads, officers and employees and port users were present.
