Forcibly money collection in the name of Scout Camp’ has been alleged by the businessmen in Barisal.
Denying disclosing name but showing copy of letter signed by Barisal Divisional Commissioner and sent from his office ( memo no. 05.10.0000.102.06.001.14.10(20) dated January 12, 2014), said that Regional Cub Campury would be held at Barisal Regional Scout Training Center from 2-7 March.
In those camp 800 cub-scouts, 130 unit leaders and about 70 officials from 130 schools of 41 upazilas in the region will join and Tk.12 lakhs needed to bear costing of that, which was beyond the capacity of regional scout fund.
So the divisional commissioner’s office issuing official letter asked different businessmen and business institutions to deposit at least Tk.5, 000 in the form of demand-draft or pay-order at the account of Bangladesh Scouts Barisal region with Prime Bank Barisal branch.
The businessmen sources told this letters would be considered as one form of ‘official toll collection’ as none has courage to ignore the letter in fear of administrative harassment like mobile-court.
Touhiduddin Ahmed, regional director and secretary of Bangladesh Scouts Barisal region, acknowledging the facts of issuing the letter said divisional commissioner as president of the ‘1st regional cub-campury’ organizing committee, issued the letter.
