Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited retained their supremacy in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Football defeating Fortis Football Club by a solitary goal in their fifth match at the Martyr Dhirandranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla on Friday.
After yesterday’s outcome, Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited collected maximum 15 points from five matches, while Fortis Football Club earned five points from as many matches.
Unbeaten Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited took the solo lead though the league leaders played their fifth match without their key player and Captain Souleymane Diabate.
Mohammedan’s Nigerian recruit Emmanuel Sunday scored the all-important goal using an accurate pass of his Nigerian teammate Ernest Boateng in the 17th minute of the play.
It was Emmanuel’s third goal in the ongoing league. Mohammedan’s Malian recruit Diabate and Al-Amin of Bangladesh Police Football Club are the highest scorer with five goals each in the ongoing BPL Football, the most prestigious domestic football competition in the country.
Mohammedan got the chance to increase their tally in the 40th minute of the play. But Mohammedan’s Nigerian recruit Boateng shot went wide as he got the ball on his way from a superb cross of his teammate Uzbek Muzafforov.
After the lemon-break, Mohammedan got another chance to double the margin. Sunday got a ball from his teammate Arif in the 64th minute of the match. Arif passed the ball after dodging past one defender of Fortis Football Club but Sunday foiled the opportunity.
After that Abdullah Omar of Fortis Football Club found the net but the assistant referee showed off-side flag. Thus, Fortis failed to level the match.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Wanderers Club beat Chittagong Abahani Limited by one goal to nil in the day’s other match at the Shaheed Barkat Stadium in Gazipur.
Dhaka Wanderers Club’s local forward Shakil Ali scored the match-decider in the 42nd minute of the match.
Dhaka Wanderers Club took the eighth position in the points table with four points from five matches, while Chittagong Abahani Limited remained with naught after taking part five games.
