The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Monday the 16-member Bangladesh One Day International (ODI) cricket squad for the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka.
Parvez Hossain Emon, Mohammad Naim and Shamim Hossain have been included in the squad. Litton Das, Taskin Ahmed and Hasan Mahmud have also been included in the squad. Ace all-rounder Mahidy Hasan Miraz will lead the squad as the captain of the squad. It will be the first assignment for Miraz to lead the ODI cricket squad of Bangladesh against any team.
Experienced cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riyad retired from ODI cricket. Soumya Sarkar was ruled out from the squad due to injury. Taskin Ahmed returned to the ODI squad as he is now totally fit from injury. Nasum Ahmed has been dropped from the squad. Hasan Mahmud, who did not get chance in Bangladesh ODI cricket squad for the outgoing ICC Champions Trophy, has been called in the squad. Besides, Tanivir Islam has been included in the squad.
Earlier, Mohammad Naim was dropped from the ODI squad as he had a poor form. He scored only 95 runs playing eight matches. But Mohammad Naim proved his potentiality after showing a notable performance. He score 618 runs playing 11 matches in the recently concluded Dhaka Premier League (DPL) Cricket. He also scored 511 runs after playing 14 matches in the recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket.
Wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan showed outstanding performance in the recent competitions but he was not called by the BCB.
Parvez Hossain Emon scored 698 runs playing 16 matches in the recently concluded DPL Cricket.
Bangladesh Test Cricket squad are now in Sri Lanka. The first Test match between the Tigers and Sri Lanka ended in a draw at Galle International Stadium in Sri Lanka on June 21. The second Test match between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be held at Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo, the capital city of Sri Lanka from June 25 to June 29. The two-Test series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka is part of ICC World Test Championship.
Bangladesh will play three ODI matches against Sri Lanka. The Tigers will take on the Islanders in the first ODI at Ranasinge Premadsa Stadium in Colombo on July 2. Bangladesh will face Sri Lanka in the second ODI at the same venue on July 5. The Tigers will meet Sri Lanka in the third ODI at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Sri Lanka on July 8.
The cricketers, who have been included in the 16-member ODI squad, are: Mehidy Hasan Miraz (Captain), Tanzid Hasan, Parvez Hossain Emon, Mohammad Naim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy, Litton Das, Jaker Ali, Shamim Hossain, Rishad Hossain, Tanvir Islam, Mustafizur Rahman, Tanzim Hasan, Taskin Ahmed, Nahid Rana and Hasan Mahmud.
