A clash broke out between police and the agitators at around 6pm on Tuesday (July 16). Apart from the police box, several motorbikes were also damaged.
“I narrowly escaped with my life. I would have died if I was a little late,” said a police officer who managed to get out of the box.
The situation has almost calmed down after nearly 90 minutes of clashes. Vehicles are moving on one side of the road.
The agitating students took position near the Mohakhali bus terminal, while the policemen were at Amtoli. As the students threw brick chips, the policemen responded with rubber bullets and tear gas.
Meanwhile, six people, including several students, have been killed in Dhaka (two), Chattogram (three) and Rangpur (one). Scores of people have been injured. Border Guard Bangladesh troopers have been deployed in Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Bogura and Rangpur to bring the situation under control.
