Shipping Adviser Brig Gen (retd) M Sakhawat Hossain on Tuesday stated that the 16th of December (Victory Day) and the 1971 Liberation War exclusively belong to Bangladesh.

“Indian Prime Minister’s post reflects his personal opinion.

The nine-month war and the 16th of December are matters solely belonging to Bangladesh,” he said while responding to queries from reporters after attending the graduation parade of the 3rd batch at Bangladesh Marine Academy, Sylhet.

He further mentioned that Modi’s statement is India’s internal matter, but the honor and pride of the Liberation War belong only to Bangladesh.

Reflecting on the war, Sakhawat said, “The nine-month-long Liberation War witnessed tremendous bloodshed and the violation of our women’s dignity.

Bangladesh initiated the war, Bangladesh brought it to victory, and the whole world recognizes this. Comments undermining these sacrifices, even after 52 years, deeply hurt those who had fought the war.”

Addressing the cadets, he emphasized the ongoing initiatives to improve the capacity and global reputation of the country’s marine academies.
