Government will use Moderna covid vaccine as booster shots instead of Pfizer, the authorities said in a notification.
The health authorities will reserve Pfizer vaccine for school and college students, and others who have already received one dose of it.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday issued the notification in this regard.
It has asked all involved with the government’s vaccination drive to comply with the directive.
The notification said that the government will reserve the Pfizer vaccine for students aged 12-17 and others who have already received one dose of it.
It said that the decision was taken considering the number of vaccines in stock and to ensure that every eligible person in the country is inoculated.
The health authorities started inoculating booster shots on December 28 last year. The doses are currently administered to people over 60 years age and frontline workers.
A person becomes eligible for the third dose if at least six months have passed since they received their second shot.
