Two youths were allegedly killed in the Sayedabad area of the capital on Wednesday morning, after an enraged mob beat them over accusations of raping a woman.
The deceased have been identified as Arafat Sharif, 20, and Saidul Islam Yasin, 19.
According to reports, after being assaulted by the mob, both Arafat and Yasin were taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 10:45 a.m. in critical condition. However, on-duty doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Samrat, a student who transported Arafat to the hospital, told the media, “Some unknown individuals beat Arafat in Sayedabad for allegedly raping a girl.” Yasin was brought to the hospital by his family members.
Earlier, reports surfaced of a woman being gang-raped in the Sayedabad area.
The Bangladesh Army was reportedly informed of the incident, but before they could intervene, an angry mob took matters into their own hands and attacked the accused duo.
The police are investigating the incident, and further details are expected as inquiries continue.
