Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul has announced that the brutal killing of a scrap metal trader near Mitford Hospital on July 9 will be tried under the Speedy Trial Tribunal to ensure swift justice and exemplary punishment for the culprits.
In a post on his verified Facebook page, Dr Nazrul wrote, “The government is committed to ensuring a speedy trial in the horrific Mitford murder case. This case will be tried without delay, and those responsible will face exemplary punishment.”
He confirmed that five individuals have already been arrested in connection with the killing, and police have launched an intensive investigation.
“The case will be transferred to the Speedy Trial Tribunal under Section 10 of the Speedy Trial Tribunal Act, 2002, to facilitate an expedited trial,” he added.
On July 9, 39-year-old Lal Chand, also known as Sohag, a local scrap metal trader, was brutally hacked, beaten, and stoned to death in broad daylight near one of the gates of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Hospital.
